January 2, 2012

This week is the week of milagros (miracles)!  Seriously, my testimony was strengethed this week.  We went to go visit an investigator named Elly...she's an 84 year old lady from Germany.  She has NO family here and she's really lonely.  She feels like God doesn't love her because He let bad things happen to her.  So we go over every week and help her clean her house and share a message.  We usually visit her on Thursdays but we got a call the day before that she got in a car accident on Christmas day and her car was really badly damaged.  She then received news that her nephew in Germany (one of the 2 family members that are alive) died that day too....talk about rough.  So we told her we were gonna go visit her the next day.  So we did, and she looked baaad.  Not because of the car accident but you can tell her spirit was broken.  She had no hope in her eyes and you can tell she was hurting in her heart.  She cried and told us that she did the right thing and went to church (catholic) on Christmas and on her way home, she got in an accident.  Then a couple hours later received the call from Germany.  So Hermana Thomas asked her if she wanted a blessing.  Apparently before Hermana Thomas and the companion she had before me had been asking Elly if she wanted a blessing but she always refused.  So she when Hermana Thomas asked again, she said no again.  We then offered to do some cleaning.  Hermana Thomas started vacumming and as I was dusting, Elly said "isn't those your fathers outside??"  As I looked out her balcony window, I saw the Elders walking to another house in the complex.  (She called them fathers since she's catholic...haha).  She then asked me what a blessing is and what they do.  So quickly I explained to her what the priesthood was and that the blessing will comfort her and give her the health she needs as long as she has faith.  Then with tears in her eyes she says "do you think it would help??" and of course I said "yes!!" so Hermana Thomas and I ran down to go catch them and I was kinda nervous since I didn't know where they went.  But as we ran we saw them standing there, not knowing where to go.  So we told them the whole situation and they went with us to her house and gave her a blessing and a spiritual though.  Bottom line, it wasn't a coincidence that those Elders were there at that time that Elly really needed a blessing.  We have been praying for her everyday that she would feel God's love.  So when she told us about her car accident and nephew passing away, we just had no idea what to say to her but God does really help you when you really need it.  How grateful I am for silent prayers and that the Elders were guided to go knocking in that neighborhood at 2 in the afternoon.
Hermana Thomas and I started this year off right yesterday!  Last week we really wanted to reach 20 lessons this week....we've really been struggling to meet the mission goal but we really wanted to do all that we can to meet it.  So on Friday night, we only had 9 lessons...9!! That's it.  The weekends are the WORST to teach people but as my companion says (all those dang white people have it off while all the mexican's work...it's funnier when she says cause she's white)  So we decided to fast because we REALLY REALLY wanted to get 20 lessons....we both love food so we knew heavenly father knew we were being serious with this.  We had faith and knew Heavenly Father would prepare a way for us just like we teach to our investigators and less-actives.  We were able to have 6 lessons but that meant we had to have 5 lessons by Sunday (which was yeterday).  Sundays are usually really rough to find people and teach them.  After church, our dinner plans at 2PM fell through and we were suppose to teach them since they're less active.  It was 3PM and we hadn't taught a single lesson!  Thankfully Gloria Watson and Sofia (both invesitgators) were home and graciously let us in to teach them.  All of our 5PM plans fells through so we prayed for guidance.  During the prayer, the Huizar family came into my mind so we went to go visit them and luckily they were found the mom and taught her!  At 7pm we then visited the Casillas family which have been investigating the church for years but they are sooo nice so we ended up teaching them but they also fed us a surprise dinner and by the time we left their home it was 8:30PM!!  We were really panicky and worried because we still had 1 more lesson til we met our goal but we had to be home by 9 but all of our 8PM plans were far from where we were and we knew it'd be poinless to drive all the way over there then had to drive back home to make it back in time.  So we prayed again on what we should do.  My companion then told me to start driving as she though about what we should do.  The only person she though of that was on our way home was Luz Maria Sanchez...let me tell you about her..she's a less active and EVERYTIME we go to her house, she is never home!  Seriously...we've been to her house like 8 times since I've been here.  So when Hermana Thomas said that, let's just say I wasn't that hopeful.  So as we parked, we actually saw lights on in her house and we started to get really excited.  She then (by miracle) opened the door and let us in!! We were sooo excited...we probably looked creepy cause we were so happy.  So we shared a message about our relationship with God and Luz started talking about how her nephew moed in with her from Mexico and she thought that he'd really like the church.  We though "AWESOME!! a lesson AND a referral."  Then she's like "I'll call him in so you can meet him."  WHAAAT?!?! Even Better!!  So we were able to teach him too and set up a return appointment which means we taught a lesson, received a referral, contacted him AND because we taught and set up another appointment with him, he is now our newest investigator!!  We were home by 9 and the whole ride home, Hermana Thomas and I were just in shock!  How did all that happen within 2 days?!?!  Duh, it's because with God, all things are possible!!  Yesterday was the happiest day of my mission thus far.  I know it because we worked really hard and were dilligent.  We were EXACTLY obedient and our goals really were the desires of our hearts.  My Companion and I truly were inspired thatday and our hearts are filled with immense gratitude that we witnessed God's hand in our lives.  I know that he ALWAYS provides a way.  This is His work.  I truly gained a testimony of that this week...the week of milagros!  I love you all.  Thank you for your support.
